PAPER CHEF 34 – NOVEMBER

with 15 comments

First of all I have to congratulate the world on getting Obama as the president of USA, let’s hope that crazy woman Palin has gone back to her room with a view( of Russia). Anyway, this is not going to be about politics but something more important – food.

It is once again time for the fun of Paper Chef. Since  I was the lucky winner of last month’s challenge I get the pleasure not only to present the 4 ingredients, but I also get to judge you guys.

For the people who have no clue what Paper Chef is I can tell you that it is a cooking challenge that will show you all the good of cooking. It will bring back pleasure in the kitchen (if you lost it), it will spur your creativity, introduce you to new ways of thinking about food, it will become your new addiction. There is no pressure, only jolly good fun.

It is simple. I will here  post 4 ingredients that must be used to create a dish of your choice, it can be one dish or it can be a menu – it is all up to you but they must all contain these ingredients:

– Turkey

– Anaheim peppers

– Winter squash

– Lentils (this was my choice)

Should there be something you cannot eat due to allergies, religious persuasions, being vegetarian of vegan or you cannot buy it where you live- feel free to swap that ingredient for something similar.

The full set of rules  can be found on the site of Paper Chef in the right side column. There you can also see earlier contributions for inspiration.

You have until Tuesday 11th to blow us away. If you have any questions you are welcome to e-mail me at magnus@telfort.nl

Have fun, be playful and surprise me.

  2. Great choice, this should be fun and challenging.
I live in Canada and don’t know what Anaheim peppers are, can you suggest some alternatives?
(our pepper selection is weak compared to the States)
And, are they dried or fresh?
Thank you so much for your help.

  3. Good ingredients.
I’m in Argentina right now and Anaheim peppers are not easy to find here, but after a call to the Mexican Embassy, I think I’m in luck. I also ended up enrolling in a cooking class (Mole and corn tortillas). This is going to be fun.

  4. Ilva, great. Thanks for making PC happen.

Natashya, I am not sure I can get any anaheim peppers myself in Amsterdam. However, they are a very mild chilli pepper a jalapeño is about 4 times stronger in taste. You could use paprika or any chilli peper of choice. But it is not supposed to be hot. Mix bell peppers with a bit of chilli.

Pia, that is one determined woman:) You didn’t call the Mexican embassy for real did you? Cool. I look forward see what you come up with.

  7. hank: I think it looks great and wouldn’t mind having some of it. The mix between lentils and pumpkin seems very nice.

murasaki: konichi-wa. It seems Hank forgot to link to his contribution. The rest, if there are any will be presenten on the paper chef-blog.

  13. Hi Magnus, I did really call the Mexican embassy. In the end it was easier to find the peppers than the turkey since, somehow, in this country they like to sell you only whole turkey. That it is just a little too much for me, I am only 5 feet tall (or should I say short). After all my searching I ended up traveling to Brazil, so no Paper Chef this month. Good luck judging.
